Volkswagen Group: agreement with BP for 8,000 charging points in Europe

The ambitious electrification plan of the Volkswagen Group also includes several projects to speed up the installation of fast charging points thanks to the collaboration with some partners. These are important initiatives in order to encourage the spread of electric cars. And precisely on this issue, the news has arrived that the German Group has signed one partnership with BP to go and install up to 8,000 high-power charging points in Europe.

The Volkswagen Group will provide the charging infrastructure. Specifically, they will be used the 150 kW Flexpole which have an integrated storage system. The project expects up to 8,000 new charging points to be installed at BP distributors in Germany, the United Kingdom and other European countries by the end of 2024 (4,000 in Germany and the United Kingdom alone).

The new charging points will be visible through the apps that the Volkswagen Group brands have created for their electric cars. In any case, it will not be a “dedicated” infrastructure in the sense of the new columns they will be able to supply energy to all electric vehicleseven those of brands that are not part of the Volkswagen Group.

The first charging point resulting from this partnership was inaugurated in the city of Dusseldorf, Germany. According to what emerged, the German Group and BP will evaluate further possibilities for collaboration in the field of electric mobility.

A very interesting project and not the only one that the Germans are carrying out in this field. For example, we cannot fail to mention the strategic agreement with Enel X which will allow us to go to install over 3,000 HPC charging points in Italy by 2025. Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, said:

Volkswagen has pioneered the transformation towards electric mobility across Europe. Today we have the widest offering of electric cars on the market and last year we sold more electric vehicles in Europe than any other car manufacturer. Investing in everything from software, to batteries and charging is part of our strategy to make individual mobility safer, more convenient and completely climate neutral. We are delighted to partner with BP to accelerate the rollout of the fast charging network across Europe.
