March 2022 it was particularly bad for the Italian auto market. As we saw yesterday evening, in the month just ended, registrations dropped by 29.7% compared to 2021. According to UNRAE, among the reasons that led to this result, also the wait for the new incentives which is leading people to wait for the new contributions in order to get a better price for the purchase of the new cars.
A decline that has also affected electrified cars, both hybrids and both Plug-in and electric. Speaking, for example, of the BEV models, compared to March 2021 there was a decrease in registrations of 38.8%. All this translates into a market share of 3.7% against that of 4.3% in March 2021.
Going into detail, let’s see now how registrations of hybrid, plug-in and electric cars went in March 2022.
TOP 10 ELECTRIC MARCH 2022
In Italy, in this month of March, certainly Tesla can smile since his Model Y was the best-selling electric with 678 units registered. Moreover, the Tesla Model 3 took fourth place with 378 registered cars. The result of the electric SUV is very interesting, especially considering the future. With the entry into operation of the German Gigafactory that will serve to meet European demand for the Model Y, the shares of the electric SUV could rise significantly in the coming months.
The Dacia Spring also did well which in March 2022 takes the second position with 516 cars. Third step of the podium for the electric 500 with 495 units. Overall, 4,511 electric cars were registered in the month just ended.
TOP 10 HYBRID MARCH 2022
Speaking of HEV hybrids, remember, as always, that the ranking also includes the Mild Hybrid models. We always find first the Fiat Panda with 9,131 units. Second position for the Lancia Ypsilon with 3,103 cars. Third step of the podium for the Ford Puma. It is worth noting the fourth and fifth positions of the Toyota Yaris and Yaris Crosses. Overall, 39,420 hybrids were registered in March 2022.
And coming to the Plug-in modelsin the first two places we find the Jeep Compass and Renegade. Third step of the podium, however, for the BMW X1. Fourth place for the Ford Kuga. In March 2022, a total of 6,083 Plug-in cars were registered.
