Stellantis continues to carry out its plan “Give Forward 2030“which foresees the achievement of ambitious milestones. For example, the Group is working to ensure that 100% of sales in Europe and 50% of sales in the United States are made up of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by the end of the decade.
As part of its ambitious growth plan, Stellantis has announced a investment of 2.8 billion dollars to secure the future of its assembly plants in Windsor and Brampton (Ontario – Canada) and to expand its Automotive Research and Development Center (ARDC), to accelerate its electrification plan.
Specifically, the Windsor plant will be upgraded to produce a new multi-energy platform (MEV). The plant will be refurbished to also be able to adjust production volumes as needed and meet the changing market demand over the next decade. The reorganization is expected to begin in 2023. The Brampton plant will be reorganized and completely modernized, starting in 2024. Production will then resume in 2025. The Group’s electrified models will also be produced here.
The models that will be built in these two plants will be announced later. L’ARDC based in Windsor will be expanded. Stellantis counts of hire 650 new engineers highly skilled. These new employees will work in various areas to support the Group’s electrification plan. Specifically, they will deal with motors, batteries, power electronics, software and much more.
The ARDC will also become the first laboratory for batteries in North America. Previously, the Group announced its intention to build a similar center in Turin as well. The Battery Lab will be a state-of-the-art technology center for the development and validation of advanced cells, modules and battery packs for BEV, PHEV and HEV models.
The choice of the ARDC as the location for the battery development laboratory is no coincidence. In fact, the battery factory, resulting from the joint venture with LG Energy Solution, will also be built in Windsor. This is a plant which, when fully operational, will have an annual production capacity of 45 GWh.
