Samsung brings NFTs to TV: partnership with Nifty Gateway

Thanks to a partnership between Samsung and Nifty Gateway it will be possible buy, sell and trade NFTs even on your own TV. The Nifty Gateway app has already been integrated into the QLED and Neo QLED 2022 ranges, and a separate download from the app store is planned for The Frame and MicroLED ranges.

Nifty Gateway is an NFT platform that we could define very close to the more traditional art world, and has sold works by digital and non-renowned artists such as Pak, Refik Anadol and Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann. It was acquired as early as 2019 by the Winklevoss twins (the same ones involved in the creation of Facebook) and their blockchain venture Gemini, and last year began collaborating with the prestigious auction house Sotheby’s. The relationship with Samsung had existed for some time: in fact, the Samsung Next venture capital division was among the first to invest in the platform.

The current state the Nifty Gateway catalog offers approximately 6,000 works. Unlike many other NFT platforms, it is also possible to make purchases with traditional money, to be precise US dollars; the other accepted currency is ETH, the official crypto of the Ethereum blockchain network. The platform also offers a digital wallet, called Omnibus, which allows you to store your collection of works securely.

The news was announced during the Unbox and Discover streaming event which focused on the various functions and features of the Neo QLED 8K TVs that we illustrated in great detail just a couple of weeks ago. It is currently unclear whether the Nifty Gateway app release will be limited to some countries or if it will be available everywhere.
