The flagship electric cars of Opel and DS will be built in Italy: to be precise, they will be produced at the Stellantis plant in Melfi, starting from 2024. The new cars will be based on a new architecture called STLA Medium, designed to accommodate premium vehicles and primarily designed for battery-powered vehicles.
The new top model DS should have the same proportions as the new Citroen C5 but with more sporty, streamlined and at the same time refined lines, to bring to the fore, once again, the elegant DNA of the brand. The electric Opel flagship will, in all likelihood, be a Crossover and will be inspired by the Manta.
Vehicles based on STLA Medium they will be 4.35 meters to 5.00 meters long, will house battery packs from 87 to 104 kilowatt hours and offer a range of up to 700 km.
The other two models expected at the Melfi plant are the new DS 7 Crossback in the 100% electric version, arriving at the end of 2025, and a “high wheel” model also for Lancia, with the code name L74, obviously with a moved engine. from the electron.
Melfi currently builds the Fiat 500X compact SUV, launched in 2014, as well as the Jeep Renegade (also from 2014) and the Compass, launched in 2016. However, part of the Renegade production will be exported to North America while the Opel and DS models will move to Italy.
