Mercedes officially presented the new T-Class, a multi-space that winks at large families and leisure time lovers. A model that allows you to place no less than 3 seats on the rear sofa and to stow bulky loads thanks to its large load capacity.
On the German market, the Mercedes T-Class starts at just under 30 thousand euros for the T 160 petrol version with a 75 kW engine and 6-speed manual gearbox.
DESIGN AND INTERIORS
The new Mercedes T-Class is built on the basis of the new Renault Kangoo. Despite this close relationship, the design and especially the interior have been revised by the German brand to make the T-Class a “real” Mercedes.
With the New T-Class, our product range is enriched with an authentic premium compact model, which like no other is able to combine space and functionality with style and comfort. The T-Class is perfect for all those who need more space: from dynamic families to sports lovers of free time. With this model, we are consistently pursuing our growth strategy in the premium segments.
Its measurements are 4,498mm long x 1,859mm wide x 1,811mm high. The German carmaker announces that a long wheelbase version will come later with the possibility of being able to accommodate up to 7 passengers. The standard wheelbase T-Class offers a load volume from about 520 to 2,127 liters.
Mercedes explains that the low loading sill of only 561 mm makes it easier to load heavy objects. In addition, the T-Class, to facilitate passenger entry / exit, is equipped with wide-opening sliding doors on both sides.
The sliding doors offer an opening of 614mm wide and 1,059mm high. The rear seat can be folded down as standard, so as to form an almost flat loading surface with the boot floor. A chrome radiator grille as well as exterior mirror housing, door handles and front bumpers painted in body color give the car a “premium” touch.
Whether it is a Mercedes is understood even more by the interiors that have been particularly cared for. As standard, among other things, the MBUX infotainment system with 7-inch touchscreen and smartphone integration, the multifunction steering wheel with Touch Control buttons, the air conditioning, the KEYLESS Start, the instrument cluster with 5.5-inch color display, the height-adjustable driver’s seat, a lockable glovebox, a load compartment cover as well as pockets in the front seat backrests.
Also present is the interior lighting with LED technology. There is also the presence of coatings with precious materials. Two configurations are available: Style and Progressive.
ENGINES AND SAFETY
At its debut on the market, the new Mercedes T-Class will be able to count on a petrol and a diesel engine, both offered in two power levels. Speaking of diesel we have the T 160 d and T 180 d models, respectively, from 70 kW (95 HP) with 256 Nm of torque and 85 kW (116 HP) with 270 Nm of torque. For even greater acceleration, such as when overtaking, the more powerful version offers an overpower / overtorque function, which temporarily delivers up to 89 kW (121 hp) and 295 Nm of torque.
When it comes to petrol, we have the T 160 and T 180 versions that can offer 75 kW (102 hp) with 200 Nm of torque and 96 kW (131 hp) with 240 Nm of torque, respectively. The two most powerful petrol and diesel models can also have a 7-speed automatic instead of a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Speaking of safety, numerous driver assistance systems are included as standard. Among these are the hill start assistance system, the cross wind assistance system, the ATTENTION ASSIST, the active braking assistance system with intersection assistance function, the active anti-skid system, the Blind Spot Assist and the automatic speed limit detection system.
The driver assistance system package is available as an option, which also includes the DISTRONIC active distance adjustment assistance system and the active steering assistance system.
The future of the T-Class is electric. We already know, in fact, is that the EQT is in development of which Mercedes has already shown the concept car. Of this model, precise technical details are not yet known. More information will be shared later.
