For some hours there have been inconveniences throughout Italy for the payments by debit card and cash withdrawal at the ATMs. No problem, however, for those who want to withdraw or pay from an ATM of their bank.
Many reports of malfunctions arrived in the morning relating mostly to the cards of Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit and Poste Italiane. The Downdetector site also reports problems for BNL and Fineco. The malfunction, according to Nexi sources, it would take about 30 minutes. The sources, for now, exclude that it was an external attack.
The problems are reportedly related to a disruption of IBM, one of Nexi’s suppliers and would have affected only some areas, slowing down transactions. Currently everything is back to normal but some ‘queues’ in the transactions to be processed would not be excluded. Nexi is investigating with IBM the reasons that caused the slowdowns.
