Apple, on iOS the same icons of iWork for macOS: a clue of novelty for iOS 16?

Apple has updated its iWork application suite for both macOS and iOS and iPadOS. All the apps go from versions 11.2, released about six months ago, to versions 12. Although they are “major releases”, however, there are no big news but only some features have been added to both Pages and Numbers and Keynote.

NEW ICONS ON IOS: AN ADVANCE OF IOS 16?

Before seeing in more detail the innovations that have been implemented, it should be immediately noted that on the productivity apps for iOS and iPadOS, Apple has made a small but interesting change: has standardized the appearance of the icons to those of macOS.

Said thus could obviously be a foregone conclusion, even if it had not happened so far, but considering that we are getting closer to the announcement of iOS 16, which will happen on the occasion of WWDC 2022, it could also be an indication of one of the new features of the operating system of the iPhone and iPad, i.e. the appearance of the system app icons that will finally be standardized to those of macOS introduced in 2020, which was already hypothesized last year, before the release of iOS and iPadOS 15, but which is not been made.

IWORK FOR MACOS

Returning to the suite of applications, the significant change on macOS is command support, the Apple tool that allows you to create automations. On Pages there are now the actions “Open document” and “Create document”, on Numbers, in addition, there is also the action “Add row to the top or bottom of the table”, while on Keynote, in addition to opening and create a presentation, you can also test or start a presentation.

By using VoiceOver, in addition, Pages comes the possibility of read the comments and changes found and on Numbers to create formulas and quickly fill cells through automatic insertion. Also on Pages it is now possible to publish directly to Apple Books with larger file sizes, up to 2GB.

Here are the detailed changelogs:

PAGES 12.0 FOR MACOS

  • Publish directly to Apple Books with larger file sizes up to 2GB.
  • Use shortcuts on macOS Monterey to create and open documents.

On Numbers for iOS and iPadOS, as on the version for macOS, comes the ability to create formulas and quickly fill cells through automatic insertion using VoiceOver and also comes the ability to copy a snapshot of the cells of a table without formulas, categories or hidden values.
