Founder, Furnell Consult
Two years ago Susan founded FurnellConsult to focus on strategy consulting in Connected Home and Internet Of Things (IoT) specialising in developing market entry strategies with a disruptive angle for clients which have since included a major mobile network operator, large incumbent thermostat manufacturer, utility, insurance company and several smart home platform providers.
Susan is a frequent speaker at conferences and is on the committee of European Utility Week for their annual conference. In addition she was invited to write a series of articles (currently ongoing) on connected home for Utility Week, the major industry publication (which is unrelated to the conference called European Utility Week).
Susan is also an associate for Delta-ee leading the launch of their new Data Analytics Research subscription service for the energy sector as well being a regular contributor to their Connected Home service.
Prior to this Susan led the Smart Strategy team for two Big 6 utilities: RWE nPower and British Gas's Hive division.
Susan moved into smart energy and smart home markets following relevant experience gained from twenty years in the Telecoms and high tech industry. Past roles included head of product management for Telia UK (UK subsidiary of the Swedish Telecom incumbent at the time), head of strategy in British Telecom's Group Strategy and later Wholesale divisions, and founder of the UK Telecoms practice at the largest strategy consultancy of European origin, Roland Berger, where she then went on to work for their New York office in developing the technology sector. Susan holds an electronic engineering degree from Warwick University.
